April Instagram Recap!

Well to be honest I am glad April has been and gone because it wasn’t the best month for me. I turned 30 years old and instead of having a party everything had to be cancelled at the last minute because I ended up in hospital! So not the best start to turning the big 30 but on a more positive note I have some fun things to look forward too in the coming months so I can hopefully put these last few weeks behind me and move on! Here’s a few Instagram pics from April including the very special birthday card Miss K made for me :)

Banana Kiwifruit Smoothie

In an attempt to make myself eat more fruit I thought I would put my blender to good use and start making some smoothies. I can now say I am totally addicted and have been making myself and Miss K smoothies nearly everyday! This Banana Kiwifruit Smoothie we made up has to be one of our favorites so far, it’s really yummy and good for you too! Miss K loves helping to make them and more importantly LOVES how they taste!

To make this smoothie you will need:

  • 1 large banana
  • 2-3 kiwifruit
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1-2 scoops vanilla ice cream
  • 1 Tbsp honey
  • 2 Tbsp plain or vanilla yoghurt (optional)

Pop everything in the blender, make sure the lids on! Whizz up and serve. Makes 2 glasses :)

Easter Weekend

Hello, just a quick note to say I hope you all had a fabulous weekend! We ate way too much chocolate and I had to stash away half the Easter eggs as Miss K was getting a bit greedy and turning into some chocolate monster!

We spent the weekend relaxing with family and friends and I loved watching how excited Miss K was when we did the Easter egg hunt. How did you spend your weekend, did the Easter bunny visit your place too?

March Instagram Recap!

This month my baby turned 4 years old! I don’t know where the last 4 years have gone but I guess she’s not really a baby anymore! March was actually full of birthdays for us, most weekends were spent eating cake and party food but we did manage to squeeze in a weekend away down in beautiful Pauanui. Here’s the pics! xoxo

Sundae Cupcakes

Miss K turned 4 over the weekend and to celebrate we had a little get together with family and friends. I wanted to make her something special for her birthday party and decided on cupcakes but with an ice-cream sundae theme!

I started by getting some cupcake wrappers and party straws by Paper Eskimo to use as my colour theme. They stock some gorgeous party paper supplies in all sorts of colours but I went with Miss K’s fave colour PINK!

For the cupcake mixture I stuck with my favourite recipe, you can find the method here from one of my previous posts. The next step was the buttercream frosting. I searched the web reading tons of buttercream recipes as I had never made it before and was quite worried about having enough mixture for the 12 cupcakes.

I ended up finding an excellent recipe over at Savory Sweet Life, the frosting turned out just how I had hoped, it tasted amazing and there was plenty of frosting for the swirls. I used a Wilton 1m tip to decorate, then finished them off with the sprinkles and a cherry on top!

February Instagram Recap!

Well February has been a fun month for us, with lots of trips to the beach while the weather is still so good! We also had our friends visiting from Australia for a week which was just awesome and Miss K got to catch up with one of her best friends!

There has also been a bit on in Auckland this month, we took Miss K to check out the speedway racing one weekend and on Friday evening we had a great night with my family checking out the Auckland Lantern Festival!

Here’s a few Instagram pics from all our adventures, hope you are all having a great week! If you are on Instagram then leave me a comment below with your username :)

Valentine’s Day Bon Bon’s

This year as a little Valentine gift for family and friends I thought we would make some Bon Bon’s and fill them with chocolates. This is a fun craft for the kid’s to make and Miss K loved getting involved!

To make these you will need:

  • toilet rolls
  • coloured tissue paper
  • ribbon
  • selotape
  • chocolates
  • puffy fabric hearts

We grabbed most of our supplies from a discount $2 shop and supermarket. To decorate them I used some puffy fabric hearts I found but you could decorate them however you want, maybe even wrapping them in some free Valentine’s printables would look really cute!

It only takes a few minutes to put them together. First we wrapped a square of tissue around each roll and held it in place with selotape. Then popped some Hershey’s Kisses in each roll and twisted the paper at each end, holding in place I tied the ribbons and then stuck a little heart on the front of each one. It’s that easy!

Homemade Play Dough

One of Miss K’s fave things to play with is play dough, she likes it so much at the moment that I reckon we have been going through tubs of it on a regular basis!

I was getting a bit tired of spending so much money on the stuff, I kept getting all this cheap and hard play dough that just dried out and could only be used a couple of times before it was ready for the rubbish bin. When I was a kid my mum always made our play dough for my sister and I so I went on a search for the best play dough recipe and I think I found it!

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 1 cup plain flour
  • 2 Tbsp cream of tartar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 Tbsp oil
  • food colouring

Method:

  • Mix all ingredients together in a medium-sized saucepan.
  • Stir over heat until dough is pliable.
  • Allow to cool and store in a well sealed plastic bag or container.

This recipe makes a ton of play dough, its soft and if stored properly doesnt dry out at all! Miss K and I made a batch and it has been keeping her busy all week. I will definitely be making our own play dough from now on, I only wish I had done it sooner!
