Easter Weekend

Hello, just a quick note to say I hope you all had a fabulous weekend! We ate way too much chocolate and I had to stash away half the Easter eggs as Miss K was getting a bit greedy and turning into some chocolate monster!

We spent the weekend relaxing with family and friends and I loved watching how excited Miss K was when we did the Easter egg hunt. How did you spend your weekend, did the Easter bunny visit your place too?

Homemade Play Dough

One of Miss K’s fave things to play with is play dough, she likes it so much at the moment that I reckon we have been going through tubs of it on a regular basis!

I was getting a bit tired of spending so much money on the stuff, I kept getting all this cheap and hard play dough that just dried out and could only be used a couple of times before it was ready for the rubbish bin. When I was a kid my mum always made our play dough for my sister and I so I went on a search for the best play dough recipe and I think I found it!

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 1 cup plain flour
  • 2 Tbsp cream of tartar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 Tbsp oil
  • food colouring

Method:

  • Mix all ingredients together in a medium-sized saucepan.
  • Stir over heat until dough is pliable.
  • Allow to cool and store in a well sealed plastic bag or container.

This recipe makes a ton of play dough, its soft and if stored properly doesnt dry out at all! Miss K and I made a batch and it has been keeping her busy all week. I will definitely be making our own play dough from now on, I only wish I had done it sooner!

We Are Moving

A few months ago after much debate we decided we were going to leave Australia and move home (home being New Zealand). Its been a really hard decision to make, both countries have their good points, but at the end of the day I needed to get on with it and the time had come to make up my mind. So we set a date 31st August, it was still ages away, but slowly the weeks have fallen off the calendar and now the date is looming over me, and I’m starting to question.. Have I made the right choice? I think I have, we will have to wait and see..

I don’t know why I’m so nervous about moving, maybe because im a bit older and more responsible (boring!) but when I moved to the Gold Coast I didn’t think twice, I just came with my suitcase and no one else to worry bout.

I have absolutely loved the time spent here, its been an awesome 7 years. I love my friends I have made and that’s the hardest part of leaving, but deep down its never felt like home to me, New Zealand is my home, all my family are there and I miss that.

I get comments from people, “Oh no what are you doing!”, “But the weather!”, “The cost of living!”, blah, blah, blah.. It just puts doubt in my mind, as if it’s not stressful enough moving houses, this is moving countries! And to make things worse I hate flying.. Especially with a toddler!

I need this anxiety to leave me alone, I need to start getting excited! When I lived in NZ growing up I never really appreciated it, but when I think about it I was one of the luckiest kids in the world. Its one of the best places to grow up, its safe, the people and culture are beautiful, the scenery is stunning.. I’ve always been proud to call myself a Kiwi and that’s what I want my daughter to have.

Anyway wish us luck with this move, things may be a little quiet on the blog over the next couple of weeks but I will be back as soon as we are settled, and I hope to be able to share with you all our new adventures of our life back in, “The Land Of The Long White Cloud”, Aotearoa, New Zealand.

There is a great range of designs to choose from and what makes it even better is that you can either order a printed party package or print it at home yourself! I would totally recommend checking this shop out if you have a party coming up. Everything is covered from the invitations right down to the drink labels! Nestle Kids Apron Promotion

Hi everyone! Just thought I would let all the parents who shop at Coles in Australia know that Nestle has a promotion on at the moment. If you buy three Nestle products you score this awesome kids apron free! It includes a recipe leaflet and a fabric pen to write your child’s name on the front. I picked it up today at Coles and the promotion is running from 04.07.12 until stock runs out.

It wasnt hard buying three Nestle products either I just grabbed a whole lot of melting chocolate so we can make something yummy this weekend! It’s a super cute apron and I love how it’s personalised. Great for all those little aspiring chefs!

Kid With A Camera

What I’m loving this week is Miss K’s photography. One of the things that I am so glad I did was hand down an old camera of mine for her to play with. She’s been snapping away having lots of fun and I am amazed by some of the photos she has taken.

The subjects and angles are pretty interesting and its so cool to see the world from her point of view. It lets her be imaginative and I can see she is quite proud of the photos she has taken.

Another thing she loves to do is look through all my photo albums with me so I thought for a craft idea in the next couple weeks I might get some of her photos printed and let her decorate her own photo album to display them in. Maybe try this out with your kids you might be surprised by what you see!

Jello Oranges

So tomorrow is “bring a plate” at Miss K’s kindergarten. While i was trying to think of something for her to take for the shared lunch I came across these jello oranges on Pinterest and remembered them from my childhood! I thought they would be the perfect party plate idea and also something a bit different for a change.

If you are thinking of trying this you only need a couple packs of jelly crystals and about 6-8 oranges. First make up the jelly according to the packet instructions and set aside to cool for about 20 minutes. Then cut the oranges in half and scoop out the inside. Put the orange halves upright on a tray and then pour in the jelly. Put in the fridge for about 5-6 hours to set. Once they are set slice them into wedges and you are all done!
